Work equipment such as forklifts, cranes and mobile elevating work platforms must be inspected at regular intervals by a competent person — usually once a year, more often for some machines. This is not a recommendation but a legal duty of the employer.
If something happens, the Labour Inspectorate first asks for the inspection log. If the proof is missing, it is not the machine that is held liable but the person responsible in the company — under both insurance law and criminal law.
