How often does a forklift have to be inspected?

At least once per calendar year — and no more than 15 months between two inspections. That is what § 8 of the Work Equipment Ordinance requires.

The answer in detail

How often does a forklift have to be inspected?

The periodic inspection under § 8 AM-VO applies to forklifts as well as to cranes, mobile elevating work platforms and other work equipment. It is an obligation of the employer, not a recommendation.

The inspection is carried out by a competent person and the result is entered in the inspection log. If a machine has been out of use for more than 15 months, it must be inspected before it is used again.

If something happens, the labour inspectorate first asks for the inspection log. If the proof is missing, the person responsible in the company is held liable.
