Safety days at the Brenner Base Tunnel

On Europe’s largest infrastructure project, every move counts. Bildungszentrum Logistik took part in the safety days at the Brenner Base Tunnel as training partner for two key stations.

The Brenner Base Tunnel connects Austria and Italy over 55 kilometres; including the Innsbruck bypass, at 64 kilometres it will be the longest underground railway connection in the world. As the centrepiece of the Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor, the project operates on a scale that is unmatched even internationally: thousands of workers, construction sites on both sides of the Alps and highly complex logistics underground.

800 participants, two days, one mission

Where so many people work under difficult conditions, safety is the foundation of every working day. The construction companies in charge therefore organised the safety days at the Brenner Base Tunnel. At fifteen practical stations, knowledge and techniques were taught that make the difference between routine and accident in everyday site work.

BZL was chosen as training partner and ran two of these stations:

• Slinging loads for crane work — choosing the right lifting accessories, load centres of gravity, signalling and a safe procedure at the hook
• Load securing — lashing equipment, forces, legal regulations and practical application directly on the vehicle

Why this matters to us

When a project like the Brenner Base Tunnel — with international clients and a safety standard far above the legal minimum — relies on a training provider, it says a lot about the quality of the work.
